M6 bridge

Work on the M6 bridge on Eccleshall Road will see a total closure to traffic for five months.

Kier will be carrying out the ‘parapet replacement scheme’ on behalf of Highways England. Work is planned to start on Monday 13th June until 20th November. During these dates, no traffic will be able to get through and diversions will be in place.

The total closure of the Eccleshall Road bridge will be between Lakesedge and Longhope Drive. According to a letter from Kier to people in the area, the diversion route will be “along the A34, A51, A519 and B5026 Newcastle Road”.

News of the road closure comes just weeks after the roadworks and closures in the area for the Norton Bridge rail development.

[box type=”shadow” ]Lakesedge resident Bob Jones said: “This means access to Stone, the schools at Pirehill and Manor Hill will require a long diversion via Yarnfield and accross the A34. After the best part of 12 months of restrictions to and from Eccleshall due to the Network Rail work, here we go again.”[/box]

Just for peoples awareness, the works have been postponed for the time being and are currently looking into how they can complete the works with less disruption, especially to those who work on the motorway services that need access via the eccleshall road

    • Hi Joe. Thanks for the update. We’re trying to get official confirmation of this before letting everyone know. Where did you pick up on this news?

We have also now learned that there will be no access to Mill Meece and Yarnfield for 6 weeks from 20th June beyond the new Norton Bridge to Eccleshall roundabout. Effectively residents of Cold Norton and Norton Bridge now will have to divert via Worston and Great Bridgeford to get to Stone and towards Stoke. This will add at least 30 mins each way to what is normally a one mile trip from Cold Norton .
What on earth are the highways agency doing?

  • More accidents at the junction of Yarnfield Lane and A34 then
