Man discharged from hospital after falling into canal

A man who fell into the canal near Stone has been discharged from hospital

On Saturday afternoon West Midlands Ambulance Service received a call that reported that two people had gone into the canal between Stone and Aston Marina.
The call came in at 3:35pm and the emergency services dispatched a paramedic officer, an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle, the Hazardous Area Response Team, the Midlands Air Ambulance and Staffordshire Police to the scene.
On arrival they located a 31 year old man who had been in the water and was hypothermic.  The man was transferred to County Hospital Stafford by ambulance.
In the meantime the emergency services conducted a search of the Trent and Mersey canal as it was believed there was the potential for a woman also to have been in the water.
It became subsequently apparent that this was not the case and the search was called off.
The man, from Hixon near Stafford, was discharged from hospital following a period of monitoring
