Thirteen runners from Stone Master Marathoners were pounding the streets of the capital at the weekend in the 2016 London Marathon.
Two Bats came in under the magic three-hour mark with Steve Fenney in 2:48 and Phil Cape 2:59 (quite a finish to the line for those two). The first lady home for the club was Angela Mensing in a very impressive 3:21.
Other runners were Mike Keeling (3:25), Mick Downes (3:39), Pam Davies (4:22), Mac McCoig (4:47), Julie Boulton (4:31), Julia Dando (5:12), Ruth Machin (5:55), Alison Brind (4:01), Emma Dutton (5:04) and Tom Johnson (3:59).
A fantastic achievement by each and every one!
And special mention to Pam Davies, who helped a fellow runner on the day who was struggling. The club received a message from the runner – Lisa Symon – who wanted to thank the helpful Bat!
[box type=”shadow” ]Lisa wrote: “I didn’t catch the lady’s name but I wanted to say a massive thank you to the lady who helped me from about mile 24 (somewhere along Embankment) and encouraged me to carry on running. I was walking at this point and my knee had gone at around mile 21 so her enthusiasm and motivation helped me no end and she kindly ran with me for a little bit. Please pass on my heartfelt thanks to them as I actually knocked 12 minutes off my PB from Paris 3 weeks ago! I appreciate the fact that she took the time ran with me for a bit, I’ll never ever forget that.”[/box]
It wasn’t all about the London Marathon last weekend, though.
Jim Holland was the sole Stone Master Marathoners representative at the Shakespeare Marathon in Stratford and came home in an impressive 3:34.
Slightly further afield in Zurich, five Bats – including club captain Bernie Priekulis – completed the Zurich Marathon. Steve Parker was first in for the club in 3:24 and came fifth in the M60 category overall. Jackie Allen claimed a new PB with 3:41 followed in by Bernie (3:50), Julie Hulse (4:03) and Chris ‘The Legend’ Barlow in (5:27).
