Stafford Borough Council’s planning committee has rejected Seddon Homes’ application to develop 34 homes on a greenfield site south of Nicholls Lane and east of Airdale Spinney.
More than 80 residents had objected to the planned development, saying that it would encroach into the Moddershall Valley Conservation Area and have a negative impact on the nearby listed Hayes Mill.
Airdale Spinney resident John Sayer said: “We are delighted that the committee took the view that it was important to confirm the Council’s policy of protecting the environment around heritage assets and refused the application. We would like to thank our ward councillors Joyce Farnham and Philip Leason who both spoke against the application, and Councillor Geoff Collier, a member of the planning committee, who spoke passionately about the need to protect this delightful spot.”
Members of the planning committee visited the site last Tuesday morning before returning to the Civic Centre in Stafford to make their decision, where around 50 residents packed the public gallery.
It’s not known at this stage if Seddon Homes are planning to appeal the decision.
