Morrisons Supermarket submit plan to add additional lane and traffic lights to car park exit

Mill StreetMorrisons, in Stone, has submitted a planning application to add an additional exit lane from the supermarket car park – along with associated traffic signals for the crossroads.

The plans submitted show a new asymmetric layout with the lane entering Morrisons moving closer to the existing crossing and the road widening on the side of the existing petrol station.

The Mill Street junction has been a pinch point for many years with people being trapped for hours on the car park on some days.

mill street planThe proposed junction looks to increase the capacity of the A520 Christchurch Way / Mill Street junction by providing two discreet lanes from the existing roundabout that services the car park, petrol station and the road down to the Mill Restaurant.

The reworking of the junction will include new traffic signals to allow traffic through the junction, hopefully, this will be fully integrated into the signal timings further round Christchurch Way.

Looking at the plans the new layout will mean that you can no longer cross from the High Street side Mill Street onto the the other Mill Street so drivers will need to take a lap of the one way system if this is what they want to do.

There will also be a yellow box junction to stop vehicles from blocking up the junction and preventing the free flow of traffic through the junction.

Excellent so long as the yellow box is policed , I can imagine people not taking any notice and clogging up the junction.
