Stone student Fiona Smith will be travelling to Nepal next year for a 10-day hike to Everest Base Camp to raise money for Childreach International.
Fiona – who is studying at Nottingham Trent University – raised thousands of pounds for the charity last year by climbing Kilimanjaro.
Now she’s hoping to raise £2,895 through her Everest challenge for the charity, which helps children all over the world but is also the only charity with permission from the Nepali government to rebuild schools.
Fiona will be staging charity events over the coming months to achieve her target. Donations can also be made online (link below).
The charity is currently building a temporary school out of bamboo following the earthquakes in 2014 and 2015. One of the building they made was actually used at a shelter for those made homeless after the earthquake. The charity focuses on providing children with access to education and healthcare by empowering local communities. They are also working to reduce the 2,000 children that get taken in Nepal every year – trafficking is also unfortunately on the rise since the earthquakes.
