The town’s rich brewing heritage will be celebrated during Food and Drink Festival week this year with the ‘Stone 8 Pub Stroll’.
Real ale lovers will have the chance to enjoy a pint in eight great town pubs before entering a draw for the chance to be a ‘brewer for the day’ and join in the process of crafting an ale as a special guest at Lymestone Brewery.
A new event for 2015, the stroll will take in some of the town centre’s most popular watering holes – The Red Lion, The Swan, The Star, The Crown & Anchor, Langtry’s, The Borehole, The Royal Exchange and The Pheasant. Enjoying a pint in each during festival week and collecting stamps on the ‘stroll’ card will bag you a voucher for a free tour of the Lymestone Brewery, as well as entry into the ‘brewer for the day’ draw.
Sure to be a real treat for ale enthusiasts, the top prize will see the lucky winner begin their day at 7.30am, getting straight into the action and helping with the ‘mashing in’ process of ale brewing, before enjoying the breakfast laid on by hosts, Brad and Viv. Next, there will be a chance to take a close look at the key brewing ingredients – malt, hops and yeast. This will be followed by a full tour of the brewery, before being called upon once again to help deal with the ‘mash’ and start the final brewing process. Once all the hard work is done, the guest brewer can beat a hasty retreat, taking with them a case of 12 Lymestone bottled beers – and leave Brad to do the cleaning!
Festival chairman Richard Stevens says: “We we are always looking to launch new, exciting events to keep town buzzing during festival week and the 8 Pub Stroll is a great example of this. We’ve got some great town centre pubs and hopefully this will give a boost to their takings during the festivities.
“I would also like to thank Brad and Viv at Lymestone for laying on some fantastic prizes, which will no doubt encourage more revellers to get involved. The great thing about this event, however, is ultimately the fun involved in taking part – but remember, the challenge can be spread out over the entire week, not just in one evening!”
To be in with a chance of winning, simply pick up a special card from one of the eight participating pubs and enjoy a pint in each during the festival week (Monday 28th September to Sunday 4th October) to receive a corresponding stamp. Once all the stamps have been collected, hand in the completed card at any of the pubs on the ‘stroll’ to be entered into the prize draw. All those who complete and return their card will also receive a voucher for a free tour of the brewery, valid until October 2016.
