Olympic torch to be carried through Stone!

Izaak, Grace, Megan and Eddi with the torch at Kibblestone last weekend

The Olympic torch will be paraded through Stone after all – at the head of the parade at Stone Festival’s carnival day on Saturday!

Russell Cox, who visited Kibblestone Scout Camp on Saturday with the torch (pictures by Joshua Cope), will lead this year’s procession on Saturday 16th June. The torch did not travel through Stone on the official torch relay when it came through Staffordshire at the end of last month, so it’s great that people in the town will get a chance to see it!

The parade assembles on ABB’s car park in Oulton Road at 12.30pm and, following judging, will leave for Westbridge Park at 1.30pm. Russell will stay at Westbridge Park for a while if you want to be photographed with the torch!

There’s lots more information about this year’s festival at www.stonefestival.co.uk Russell carried the torch through Crewe and wants to visit as many schools and groups in the town as he  can in the build-up to London 2012. More information here

A big thank you to Russell for adding the ‘icing to the cake’ of our Olympic themed Family Camp by providing everyone with the opportunity to hold and be photographed with the Olympic Torch. It will provide us all with an everlasting memory of this year’s event.

    • Hi Phil. Looks like you had a great day! Russell is inspirational and his desire for as many people in Stone to see the torch before London 2012 gets under way is just brilliant. I know he’s being inundated with requests from schools and groups in Stone. He’s going to be very busy!
