Antony Key from Hollywood cottage:
“There is a lot to celebrate about British farming and food – so do come and join us on Open Farm Sunday and find out more! My family and I are really looking forward to welcoming everyone and showing them around the farm.
- We are breeders of Boer Goats a type of goat that produces succulent and tasty goat meat which offers an alternative red meat with high levels of protein and iron without the fat levels. The meat from goats has been featured on a number of cooking and lifestyle programmes and is used in many different cuisines. It fact it is eaten by 80 % of the world’s population, and so has great potential to be included in peoples diets in the UK. we supply goat meat to several restaurants and private households we will shortly have meat available via a website designed by third year students at Staffordshire University ( hollywoodgoatmeats.co.uk ) The goats are run as a suckler herd and so the goat kids drink all the milk directly from their mums to get the very best start in life, before going out to graze and receive cereal concentrates.
Come and walk around our small area of woodland that we clear felled of 1980s poplar trees and have replanted with Oak Ash Alder and other native species , the woodland floor now is abundant of woodland flowers , encouraging butterflies and other insects to pollinate and add to the biodiversity that Staffordshire enjoys so much of and is cared for by Farmers.
- Children will be encouraged to take part in various competitions; it is a unique opportunity to visit a small farm on the edge of Stone with difference.
Annabel Shackleton, Open Farm Sunday manager said:
“Open Farm Sunday is a great opportunity for everyone to get out into the countryside and visit a farm. It is vital that we support our farmers and understand more about the work they do, and find out for yourself how your food is produced and what it takes to look after the countryside. Hundreds of farms across the country will be opening their gates on the 8th June to celebrate British farming and food; each farm plans their own unique event and many will include a host of activities from nature walks to farm tours. So visitors will get a fascinating insight into aspects of the countryside that they wouldn’t normally see.”
