Rain failed to dampen the enthusiasm of pupils during the procession

St Dominic’s Priory School  has transferred ownership from the English Dominican Congregation to a new trust recently established by parents.

The transfer was marked by a day of celebration on 26th May as pupils, parents, teachers, alumni and well-wishers joined headteacher Pat Adamson in a procession through Stone to the school.

A ceremonial cutting of ribbon at the school gates was presided over by Stone MP Bill Cash, who led tributes to the school. Mr Cash said: “St Dominic’s is a fantastic school that has an outstanding heritage and an exciting future. It has been a major part of our region’s history for over eight decades and I look forward to watching the school continue to prosper in the future.”

Mrs Adamson added: “Today is all about the children – both current and future pupils – who will benefit from a St Dominic’s education that will help them realise a brighter future.”

Sister Pauline Burling of the Congregation said: “I welcome the transfer of the school and on behalf of the Congregation wish it nothing but success as it will provide the same exceptional education and Dominican guidance it has offered for more than three generations.”

The Catholic school welcomes children of all denominations, educates boys in the Nursery and Junior school and girls from two up to 18 years, was declared “outstanding” and “excellent” by the Independent Schools Inspectorate last December.
