Discover the magic of Jack and the Beanstalk, the 2023 Panto, at Stoke’s Regent Theatre. It is a show packed with rib-tickling humour, amazing vocal performances, and enchanting visuals, perfect for family Christmas entertainment.
Once again, the festive season brings the enchanting world of pantomime to Stoke’s Regent Theatre. This year, audiences are treated to the classic tale of “Jack and the Beanstalk,” a story that combines magic, humour, and adventure in a spectacular on-stage production.

Jonathan Wilkes, a staple of the Regent’s panto, shines as Jack Trot. His entrance with the customary greeting, “Ey up me ducks!” instantly connects with the audience, inviting everyone to get involved. Wilkes’ natural charisma and rapport with the audience, honed over the many many years, are evident in every scene.
Kai Owen returns once again for 2023, this time as Jack’s dad, Farmer Trot. Kai brings humour and musicality to his role, perfectly complementing Wilkes’ Jack. The duo’s dynamic on stage is a highlight, offering some classic comedic moments that regular panto lovers will love.

Delivering a powerful vocal performance, former Hearsay singer Noel Sullivan owns the stage as the villainous Fleshcreep, the Giant’s right-hand man. His portrayal of the antagonist adds a thrilling edge to the story, making him a character you love to boo.
Rio Maye, a recent graduate of the Wilkes Academy, captivates as The Spirit of the Beans. Her guidance through the story is both enchanting and delightful, helping the audience navigate the magical world of the show.

Michelle Andrews, as Princess Jill, Jack’s love interest, brings a combination of grace and strength to her role.
Musically, the show features a mix of popular songs and original Stoke-themed compositions. The choreography is energetic and engaging, with standout numbers that have the audience clapping and singing along. Our family loved the song where the characters sang and acted out what their jobs could have been – an absolutely chaotic rip-roarer of a song that had our children screaming with laughter.
The script, written by Alan McHugh, is well-written and filled with witty jokes, local references, and the customary panto puns, ensuring laughter throughout the theatre.
The set design is vibrant, and the various colourful backdrops transport the audience into the heart of the fairy tale. Ensure you collect your 3D specs from the theatre staff before Act 2, where 3D technology is used to provide an immersive view into the Giant’s cloud-based lair; as usual, we will give no spoiler for this year’s visual effect.
A Show for All Ages
Jack and the Beanstalk is more than just a panto; it’s a celebration of storytelling, music, and community spirit. The ensemble cast adds vitality and depth to the production, ensuring that every scene is filled with energy and talent.
The story, with its classic themes of bravery and adventure, resonates with audiences of all ages. The interactive elements, especially the audience’s response to Jack’s greeting and their participation in the 3D experience, create a unique and engaging atmosphere.
Family ALBOS gave the whole performance a well-deserved 5 out of 5, we loved it, and it had our children literally laughing themselves off their seats at various points throughout the performance – a fantastic Christmas treat that we’d definitely recommend!
