New safety measures as Stone Farmer’s Market is set to return in a new venue in June following updated government guidelines that allow open markets from the 1st June.
Plans are underway for the popular monthly High Street event to move to Westbridge Park next month to enable social distancing and enhanced safety measure. The market has not gone ahead since March because of national Covid-19 restrictions.
Stafford Borough Council has ruled out a return to the High Street because of the difficulties in ensuring social distancing would be adhered to. As such the council put forward Westbridge Park as an alternative venue – but with strict measures introduced to comply with Government advice.
Stone Farmers’ Market is expected to return on Saturday 6th June providing appropriate safety measures can be put into place.
Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Planning, Frances Beatty, said: “The safety of our residents and businesses is our priority – and we will only agree a return of markets such as this if it is safe to do so and we comply with all the government guidance.
“If we can meet the guidelines for keeping people safe, then it is vitally important we help these small businesses and sole traders get back up and running as they will have faced a tremendously difficult period and suffered a great deal financially.”
The Farmers’ Market in Stafford is set to go ahead the following week – Saturday 13 June – in the town’s Market Square.
