Christ Church Academy has been awarded the School Games Silver Kitemark for their work in school sport, one of the first schools in Staffordshire to receive the award.
The School Games Kitemark was launched this year to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the wider community.
Christ Church Academy received the silver award for meeting a wide range of standards, including pupils taking part in at least two hours of physical education during curriculum time each week and regular sporting opportunities provided for less active young people.
The school runs lunchtime activities such as basketball, table tennis, tag rugby, gymnastics, cheerleading and football, while there are lots more activities after school including badminton, cricket, netball, dodgeball and street dance.
Christ Church Academy’s PE subject leader Helen Marsden said: “To be recognised for our hard work over the past academic year via a national award is a big honour that all the staff who run the clubs and sessions can be proud of. We also aim to build on this in the coming academic year by offering further sporting opportunities to our pupils. The high numbers we have coming to the clubs also shows how many of our children are committed to adopting a healthier lifestyle, which is really pleasing.”
Steve Glover, partnership development manager for the Stafford and Stone School Sport Partnership added: “I am thrilled for Christ Church Academy. The school really embraces school sport and is throughly active in our partnership. I would like to congratulate them for this award and look forward to their continued involvment in the School Games over the coming year.”
