The empty St John’s Church building in Stone is now on the market for £195,000. Seems like a bargain? Don’t forget that around £2 million is needed to make necessary repairs.
The St John’s congregation held their final service at the Grade II listed building in August after a repair bill of £1.75 million meant they had no future there. They are currently worshipping at Walton Priory Middle School until a permanent home can be found.
The building – which was constructed in the 1870s – is up for sale with estate agent Louis Taylor, which says in its brochure for the property: “It is considered suitable for a variety of uses or redevelopment, subject to obtaining the necessary planning consents”.
It goes on: “We recommend that all interested parties make their own enquiries to the local authority in order to satisfy themselves that their proposed use is authorised in planning terms”.
