Stage set for Stone theatre group’s 40th birthday

The “Revellers” have a busy 2018 season planned and their first show of the year is a musical comedy – A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

The show tells the story of a Roman slave Pseudolus (Zero Mostel) who is scheming his way to freedom by playing matchmaker for his master’s son, Hero, who is smitten with the blonde and beautiful Philia. However, things don’t go at all according to plan. The complications that ensue involve blackmail, funny disguises and long-lost children, while Pseudolus desperately tries to keep up with his end of the bargain. This Hysterical, Historical Musical by Stephen Sondheim is guaranteed to entertain.

The show will be performed at St. Michaels Community Hall, on Lichfield Street, from the 21st to 24th March 2018 will all performances starting at 7:30 pm

2018 is a milestone year as the local theatre group celebrate their 40th anniversary, something the original members certainly didn’t envisage when they started! The theatre group was founded by a small group of friends, neighbours and workmates to produce a one-off contribution to the Stone Festival, and then it did not stop.

“Revellers will hopefully always be based in and also be part of the town of Stone. Presently our permanent home is St Michaels Community Hall on Lichfield Street, and since 2000 when the Sports and Social Club on the old GEC site closed all our shows have been performed there. St Michaels hall seats between 60 and 92 audience members depending upon our staging. We perform 4 shows per year, a pantomime, a musical, a play and a three-act comedy where audience members enjoy the show including a supper”.

“Revellers sets itself very high standards always aims to produce professional shows. Three of our last four plays have been nominated for best play by NODA (National Operatic and Drama Association) this suggests that we are doing something right”.

“To maintain our current standards, requires a huge amount of time and effort from our members but it is also amazingly rewarding, and we have a very lively social life too. For many of our members and supporters Revellers is like an extended if somewhat chaotic family”.

Everyone can get involved:

Rehearsals for A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum

A society like Revellers needs to be almost completely self-sufficient. To this we need a regular influx of new members and supporters. In the last few years we have benefited from many new members on stage, but we also need to open out the invitation to new members who are interested in being involved in other ways. We would like to reach out to people who like the idea of being involved in a busy friendly fun society but who don’t think acting is for them.

There is a huge number of off-stage roles, such as producing, directing, costumes, set design, stage management, lighting and sound, front of house and refreshments. The list goes on and on. One area in which we always need extra help is the construction, painting and dressing of sets.

If you would like to get involved in Revellers, are interested in making new friends, expanding your social network a supporter of our productions and would like to help then now is the perfect opportunity.

You can get in touch by e-mailing info@stonerevellers.org.uk, get in touch via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram or by popping into St Michaels Hall any Tuesday or Thursday evening. Their website is www.stonerevellers.org.uk
