More community fundraising events have been organised to raise money for Stone mum Helen Hutchinson’s cancer treatment.

Firefighters from Stone will be washing cars at the town’s community station on Saturday 5th December to raise money for Helen Hutchinson’s treatment. And later in the month, on Monday 21st December, a sponsored swim is being held at Alleyne’s Sports Centre.

Helen was diagnosed with bowel cancer three years ago. After treatment on the NHS, it was discovered that the cancer had spread to her lungs. In August this year, Helen faced the devastating news that NHS treatment had been exhausted and there was nothing more that could be done. The fundraising campaign for the extra treatment was started by Helen’s friend Julie Hope after she found out that Helen was going to sell her home to fund the treatment.

Proceeds from the charity car wash on Saturday will be split between The Fire Fighters Charity and Helen’s Lifeline, which is aiming to raise £50,000 to fund cancer treatment for Helen.

Welephant, the fire service’s hugely popular mascot pictured above, will be donning his trunks and joining the firefighters on Saturday, and Santa will be making a special appearance too.

The car wash takes place from 10am until 2pm at Stone Community Fire Station.

It is also an ideal opportunity to sign up for a free Home Fire Risk Check and ensure your property is as safe as it can be from fire.”[/box]
