Stone’s annual festival week gets under way on Sunday with the traditional raft race, starting from the Darlaston Inn at 10am.
Always a popular event, this year promises to be as entertaining as ever with several teams already lined up to take part and try to avoid a ducking on the short trip down the Trent to Westbridge Park.
It will be a busy day with attractions in Westbridge Park, including the dog show, the Westbridge 5 road race and a car boot sale.
During the afternoon the quarter-finals of the festival bowls competition will be taking place in Stonefield Park and then the Festival Quiz in the evening at Granvilles.
All the usual attractions will then be on during the week, including Strictly Dancing at the Crown Hotel on Wednesday 8th June and The Breakers to start Carnival weekend with a 1960s music night, also at the Crown Hotel on the Friday.
Tickets for both of these events are available from Home & Colour in the High Street.

Festival chairman John Sayer said that ticket sales are going well, and although tickets should be available on the door, if you want to be sure of being part of these events then it would be best to purchase them early.
Carnival Saturday (11th June) will feature the parade, followed by an afternoon of fun and entertainment in Westbridge Park, including the now regular helicopter rides and, this year, the Savage Skills mountain bike display team and the fantastic voice of Niki Gill, the winner of Stone Festival’s Top Talent 2011 competition.
