Stone to receive a welcome footfall boost as the popular Stone Farmers’ Market returns to the High Street on November 7th.

As Covid-19 restrictions were eased over the summer Stone Farmer’s Market moved temporarily to Westbridge Park to allow the event to continue in an environment where there was ample space to create a Covid secure experience.

Stafford Borough Council has been working with local businesses to make sure stallholders and shoppers could have a safe return to the centre of the town – with up to date national guidelines in place. There will be a new layout for the market to help social distancing with extra space between stalls.

Other measures include designated viewing areas in front of the stalls and clearly marked queuing points, additional signage in place to remind people about social distancing, and Covid-19 test and trace QR code signs will be available.

Thousands of people have attended the Farmers’ Market at Westbridge Park since June. It had previously been cancelled when lockdown measures came into force in March.

Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Planning, Councillor Frances Beatty, said:

“The safety of our residents and businesses is our priority – and we only agreed a return of the market to the High Street if all measures were in place to make it safe to do so.

“The Farmers’ Market in the High Street is important for local shops and businesses who will benefit from the extra footfall it brings to the town.”

She added:

“It has been great to see local people supporting these small businesses and sole traders at Westbridge Park however, their return to Stone High Street will be a great boost for them and the shops in the town centre in the vital pre-Christmas trading period.”

Thanks to funding from Stone Town Council, visitors will be able to park for FREE at the Crown Street Car Park (by the canal) and Christchurch Way car park -> more details.

The Farmers’ Market in Stone takes place on the first Saturday of the month. For more information go to www.staffordbc.gov.uk/stone-farmers-market or the dedicated ‘Stone Farmers Market’ Facebook page.
