Twenty-six Guides and leaders from Stone were flying out to Kenya today to work on building a new school in a rural village called Kididima.
They’re going to spend a fortnight in Kididima, which is about 30 minutes from capital Mombasa City. There are around 5,000 people living in Kididima. There is no running water or electricity but they do have a school – thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Stone Girl Guides and their Smile Three Kididima Project.
As well as working with Kenyan schoolchildren during their summer school, Guides from Stone Outward Girl Guides and their leaders will be helping to finish the new school by painting, plastering and furnishing. Fifteen Guides aged between 14 and 18, and 11 adult leaders, are making the trip to Kenya. There’s lots more information about the Smile Three project here.
Girls from the Stone Outward Division have been fundraising for over a year, everything from bag packing at local supermarkets to sponsored bike rides, treks and parachute jumps. There have also been barn dances and murder mystery nights! So far they have raised over £60,000 to get the school in Kididima built – an amazing achievement! They were at the Food and Drink Festival last weekend raising even more money and awareness of their Smile 3 mission.
