The Stone Labour Party has officially announced the commencement of its General Election candidate selection process. With the closing date for prospective Stone Labour MPs set for 8th September 2023, the party is actively working to ensure a fair and robust selection process.

Stone Labour Party have released information to A Little Bit of Stone about their current election candidate selection process and ongoing activities.

Selection Process and Timeline

The selection of the candidate is expected to be finalised by the beginning of November at the latest, although it could be as soon as the end of next month. The timeline is influenced by factors such as the number of applicants and the need to convene a rigorous selection panel.

The Labour Party emphasises the importance of standards and fairness in its selection process, aiming to avoid rushed decisions or complacency. The goal is to present voters with a motivated Labour MP candidate whom they can feel enthusiastic and secure about voting for.

Constituency Boundary Changes

The upcoming election will see changes to the constituency boundaries. The new seat will be known as ‘Stone, Great Wyrley and Penkridge’, absorbing smaller towns and villages along the A51 corridor and into South Staffordshire. Some areas, including Cheadle, Barlaston, and Eccleshall, will be transferred to other constituencies. These changes were made by the Boundary Commission to even out voter numbers across the country.

Ongoing Efforts and Activities

The Stone Labour Party provided the following statement regarding their ongoing efforts:

“While all this has been going on behind the scenes, we have not stopped our tireless efforts to oppose complacency in local and national government. We have canvassed and posted leaflets in Walton and some of the local villages. You can expect to see us out and about again over the coming weeks, to meet our target of having delivered leaflets to all of Stone town by the end of next month.

Additional teams will be working sporadically to reach the more rural areas. We have also spent time in the new parts of the constituency, having visited and linked up with activists in Wolseley, Great Wyrley, Penkridge and the Haywoods.”

Upcoming Engagements

The Stone Labour Party will be present at upcoming Farmer’s Markets, handing out leaflets and engaging in discussions. They also encourage following their social media channels and looking out for their Campaign Coordinator’s upcoming blog.
