Stone marks D-Day 80th anniversary with commemoration events

Stone Town Council will hold two events this week to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day. 

On Thursday, the 6th of June at 11:00am, a short service will be held, followed by the raising of a special D-Day 80 flag. 

On Sunday, the 9th of June at 1:00pm, a short ceremony will be held to commemorate the six men from the Stone area who gave their lives in the fighting during Operation OVERLORD.

Both events will take place at the flagpole at the top of Stone High Street, and everyone is welcome to attend. 

Councillor Jim Davies, Chairman of the Council’s D-Day 80 Working Group, said:

“I am pleased that Stone will hold two events alongside national and regional events, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

A special D-Day anniversary flag will be flown in the High Street from 6th – 10th June and we will hold two short services as part of the flag-raising ceremony to remember those who gave their lives.”
