Runners from Stone Master Marathoners were saluted at the club’s annual awards evening at the Upper House in Barlaston on Friday night (5th February).

It was a fantastic setting to celebrate the achievements of all Bats over the past 12 months.

The big winners of the night were Paul Phillips and Anne-Marie Mountford, who won the Mens and Ladies Championship respectively and also the North Staffs Road Runners Awards for the club. In the veterans category Alison Brind and Richard Shaw collected awards, with both also winning the Cross Country awards. Richard also won the prestigious Runner of the Year award as voted by his fellow runners.

Steve Parker won the Outstanding Achievement Award after completing numerous marathons, the most recent being 3:18 (2nd M60 in Spain). Club Person of the Year went to the captain, Bernie Priekulis, while Beginner of the Year went to Tim Clegg.

It was back to the running following the awards night!

On Saturday, Alison Brind followed up her success on Friday night by completing a 24-mile off-road event in Ilkley in 4:50.

And Sunday saw the opening race of the season – the Alsager 5 – a quick five-mile race attracting 1,200 runners from all over the country. An amazing 23 Bats represented the club with Mick Downes first home in 32:40 and Pippa Steele 32:59 first lady. The full list of finishers were as follows:
