A group of runners from the Stone Master Marathoners will be running 167 miles this weekend as they take on the famous Coast to Coast challenge.
From Saturday May 4th the group will run relay legs of five miles over three days from St Bees on the West Coast to Robin Hood’s Bay on the East Coast taking in some of the most stunning scenery England has to offer. Passing through the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors the route will include some extremely challenging gradients including the infamous Hardknott Pass.
We wish the following runners the very best of luck: Alison Brind, Julie Hulse, Philip Hateley, Brian Hall, Steve Alder, Emma Alder, Bernie Priekulis, Steven Parker, Richard Shaw, Margaret Shaw, Chris Barlow, John Treanor, Phil Sharratt, Mac McCoig, Lisa Russell, Anne-Marie Mountford, Jackie Allen, Nick Boulton, Julie Grffiths, Dave Upton and John Haine.
The Club has thanked St Dominic’s Priory School for the use of their minibuses for the event and has also thanked the Stone & District Round Table for their very generous donation of £350. SMM assisted the Round Table with their Santa Dash last year (helping them collect in record time!) and are thrilled to report that they have been able to allocate the generous donation to two charities connected with members of the running club. The money has been shared between Hannah Beeley who is running the Shakespeare Marathon for Brain Tumour UK and Julie Ebrey, who ran the London Marathon recently for Bliss.
The Stone Master Marathoners wish to pay their respects to the families and friends and all connected with the Boston Marathon at this time. A moment of silence was observed by the Club at their AGM recently.
The Stone Master Marathoners meet at Stones Tennis Club on Newcastle Road every Wednesday evening from 6.15pm and on Sunday’s from 9am. The beginners group meet on Thursday at 6.30pm. Come along and join the fun.
To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the last Flying Fox Marathon, Stone MM are organising a one off Marathon event on May 25th 2014. For more details about this and the Club’s other events visit their website HERE
