Stone nursery in national roll of honour

Inside the pre-school nursery in Lichfield Road

An “outstanding” Stone nursery features in a new national roll of honour.

Ofsted’s latest list of outstanding educational establishments features two Smartys Day Nursery sites – the baby nursery and the pre-school nursery, both in Lichfield Road.

The list was published to coincide with Ofsted’s annual report, which shows 13 per cent of schools, and 10 per cent of childcare providers, inspected during 2009/10 were classed as outstanding.

  • Ofsted inspectors said of the baby nursery in June: “Children thoroughly enjoy their time at the setting and eagerly engage in activities that fully reflect and value their uniqueness. The excellent relationships between staff and parents help children feel secure and confident and systems for seeking and implementing parental views are thriving. Children benefit from a comprehensive range of interesting activities and are making excellent progress.”
  • Inspectors were just as impressed with the pre-school nursery. Their report said: “Children are provided with exceptional levels of care and receive motivating learning experiences expertly matched to their individual needs. The provision is led by a highly motivated and extremely enthusiastic management team. All practitioners and professionals work successfully together as they share a commitment to offering the best possible experiences to children and their families.”

Smartys Day Nursery proprietor Janet Skelton said: “We’re delighted to be in Ofsted’s list of outstanding providers. We strive to offer the very best care and early education for our children and we always aim to hit the highest standards.”

Springfields First School in Yarnfield also made the Ofsted roll of honour. Find out more about Ofsted’s outstanding providers here.
