Stone Remembrance and Armistice Services 2024

Remembrance Day

The Annual Parade, together with Services of Remembrance at the War Memorial in Granville Square and later at the Parish Church of St. Michael and St. Wulfad, will take place on Sunday, the 10th of November.

The arrangements are as follows: –

  • 10:15 a.m.: Parade personnel assemble at the bottom of the High Street.
  • 10:35 a.m.: Parade proceeds along the High Street to the War Memorial in Granville Square, led by the Stone Scout & Guide Band and accompanied by Florence Brass Band.
  • 10:45 a.m.: Presentation of wreaths. Those wishing to lay a wreath should report to Mr. I. Prescott, the Parade Marshal, during assembly for briefing.
  • 11:00 a.m.: Two-minute silence followed by the Service of Remembrance.

All those laying wreaths will be asked to walk together in the parade or assembler together prior to the parade reaching the top of the High Street and asked to stand near the War Memorial in order to streamline the laying of the wreaths.

At the conclusion of the Service at the War Memorial, the Parade will proceed to the Parish Church of St. Michael and St. Wulfad via High Street and Church Street led by Stone Scout & Guide Band, where the Colour and Standard Bearers are requested to line up at the entrance to the Church and, when instructed, enter the Church, present their Colours, and then take the seats reserved for them.

After the Church Service, the parade will be disbanded and will not proceed to Market Square.

Earlier in the morning, the customary Service of Remembrance will be held at the Walton War Memorial on Whitemill Lane, Walton, commencing at 9.50 a.m., and you and/or your organisation are cordially invited to participate. Persons attending should kindly assemble at the War Memorial by 9.40 a.m.

If you are planning to lay a wreath during the service in Granville Square, it would be most helpful if you could advise the Town Council on 01785 619743.
