Electricians in Stone have the chance to land a key contract with Stafford Borough Council.
The contract to be in charge of Stafford’s Christmas lights is up for tender and businesses in Stone and across the borough are being encouraged to put themselves forward.
The work will include installing the lights in the run up to the big switch on which will take place in November. Feedback from the switch on last year was extremely positive with one of the biggest crowds turning out to see the town illuminated.
The contract will require the winning firm to carry out comprehensive testing of the lights, as well as checking wiring and brackets before the big event, and taking them down afterwards.
Stafford Borough Council has signed up to the ‘Think Local’ initiative, which encourages support for local businesses. Details for those interested can be found here. The contract will run from July this year until 2014 and any expressions of interest must be made before Monday 11th April.
Head of Planning and Regeneration Ted Manders said: “The Christmas lights switch-on is one of the highlights of the year for the people of Stafford and so it is very important we have the right contractor in place to ensure we deliver a fantastic spectacle for our residents.”
Around 10,000 people packed in to the town’s market square and surrounding streets to see local police hero David Rathband push the switch to turn on the lights last year.
