Stone’s performing arts school, Rooftop Studios, is throwing open its doors for a week of classes and workshops during the school summer holidays.

Youngsters aged between 3-18 seeking to carve out a career in the performing arts, or who just want to have fun and make friends during the summer break, are welcome to join one or more of the sessions on offer between Monday 10th and Friday 14th August.

As well as a fun way to keep the kids entertained during the school holidays, the sessions offer a great opportunity to experience the activities members of the studio’s renowned Pop School and Stage Academy training school enjoy each week.  With classes and workshops covering Street Dance, Musical Theatre, Ballet, Tap, Singing, Drama, Crafts and face painting, kids can hone their skills and have loads of fun along the way.

The week will include a Disney’s ‘Frozen’ themed day on Wednesday 12th, where children will act out their favourite scenes, sing ‘Frozen’ karaoke, and take part in a ‘Frozen’ themed art attack, creating snowflakes and glittery snowmen – and there will also be the chance to attend exclusive workshops, led by talented industry professionals.

The first of these, on Tuesday 11th August, will see London-based choreographer Alex Scurr provide two age-specific master classes, during which he will share his expertise, as a professional dancer performing the world over on cruise ships, tours, television, and in films.

Meanwhile, Thursday 13th August will see Stoke-on-Trent born West End star Richard Smikle showcase his ‘Thriller Live’ workshop, including original Michael Jackson choreography as well as his signature moves and dances used in the West End show.

Looking ahead to the summer school, Studio Director at Rooftop, Laura Keeling, says:  “The idea is to give kids a week they’ll never forget!  Whilst we’ve ensured the classes will be jam-packed with all the different activities on offer at the studio, the highlights are undoubtedly the West End workshops.  Having seen these guys in action, I can say the workshops are a must for anyone seeking to carve out a career in the performing arts.”

“However, summer club is not just about honing your skills as a prospective artist.  As a parent myself, I understand the issue of childcare during the school holidays and appreciate that no two families needs are the same.  For this reason, we aim to be truly flexible with the option of a week long, full day, half day or hourly package, as well as the possibility of before and after-hours care on request.”

A full timetable of classes for the Holiday Club, along with details of the West End workshops, is available at www.rooftopstudios.co.uk.  With each day’s itinerary running from 9.30am – 4.30pm, prices for attendance are £5 per hour, £10 for half a day, or £20 for a full day (West End workshops will incur an extra charge).  Alternatively, a full week’s attendance, including a place on the two West End workshops, is £110 per child.  There will be a 25% discount for siblings also wishing to attend.

The classes will be run from Rooftop Studios, High Street Arcade, Stone.  Places are limited, so early booking is advisable. To secure your space, please contact Laura on 07966 539 555 or email info@rooftopstudios.co.uk
