The new mayoress of Stone was appointed at the town council’s annual general meeting on Tuesday 17th May.
Cllr June Price, who was re-elected to represent the St Michael’s ward at the May elections, was appointed by her fellow councillors into the civic role.
She told the meeting: “I am delighted. One part of the role I will enjoy is meeting lots and lots of people.”
The chamber heard of the mayoress’s “ability and determination” and how she would be “an excellent ambassador for the council and the town”.
The new mayoress praised her predecessor, Cllr Rob Kenney, who was mayor for 2010/11, saying he had brought dignity to the role and “won the hearts of many”.

The former mayor said: “It’s been an absolutely fantastic experience being mayor. I’d like to thank the council and the people of Stone for allowing me the privilege.”
The new deputy mayor is Cllr Mike Carey, who is taking on the role for the fourth time, replacing Cllr Mark Green, who lost his seat the council in the recent elections.
Mark told the meeting: “I wish all councillors, new and old, a good four years. Stone is a wonderful town and I hope you have a successful time.”
Also at the meeting, Cllr Fred Jones was appointed as chairman of the general purposes committee, with Cllr Mike Carey as his deputy.
Cllr Carey was also appointed the chairman of the planning committee, with Cllr Mike Shaw as deputy.
