Four members of Stone Master Marathoners jetted off to take part in the Skopje Marathon in Macedonia recently – only to see the event cancelled due to terrorist fighting.
The group organises trips abroad to take part in races on a regular basis, but their efforts to race were scuppered this time by events well out of their control. Terrorist fighting in Kumanovo, 25 miles north-east of Skopje, where the guys were staying, saw the cancellation of the event, only a matter of hours before its planned start time.
Pictured are Kim Humphries, Bernie Priekulis, Steve Parker and Chris Barlow after collecting their medals for ‘the marathon that never was’, and at the monument dedicated to police tragically killed in the line of duty.
