The Big Event aims to educate public about Parkinson’s disease

Parkinsons Big EventParkinson’s is the world’s fastest-growing neurological condition, and 2,230 people in Staffordshire are living with the condition.

In the county, 280 people are diagnosed every year, yet most people know very little about it.

There is little understanding and awareness of the condition among the general public, and even front-line emergency workers are often unsure of how to deal with people living with Parkinson’s.

But now, to coincide with World Parkinson’s Day, members of the Stafford branch of the charity Parkinson’s UK are poised to throw light on this complex health issue in a bid to help those living their lives with Parkinson’s, their families and friends.

“Too many people think Parkinson’s is an older person’s condition and is defined by shaking,” says Lyn Lennox, lead organiser of the forthcoming Big Event.

“But it can also affect younger people  –  and not all sufferers get the shakes. The thing about Parkinson’s is that it affects people in different ways. It’s many separate conditions, all under the Parkinson’s umbrella.

“The idea of our special day is to let people know all about the condition: tell-tale signs to look out for, what help is available for those newly diagnosed and how to live a full and active life even with this terrible condition.”

The free-to-enter Big Event, which will run from 10.30am to 3.30pm, will take place at the Beaconside Conference Centre (formerly part of Staffordshire University) on Weston Road, Stafford ST18 0BF.

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet and talk with a range of Parkinson’s health professionals, including a nurse, neuro physiotherapist, speech & language therapist, and people living with Parkinson’s.

There will be talks, demonstrations, games and challenges to give visitors a glimpse into the lives of people with Parkinson’s.

“We feel it is vitally important that people should know more about Parkinson’s,” says Lyn, who co-chairs the amusingly titled Movers and Shakers group, a younger peoples’ off-shoot of the Stafford branch of Parkinson’s UK.

“Even frontline emergency workers don’t always recognise the signs, which can include walking difficulties. They have been known to see someone staggering about in the street and assume they are drunk!!

I am so happy to have found this page, very informative and supportive.. My Husband had Parkinson’s disease and was dealing with shakes, stiffness and balance issues – it was like his body was in rebellion. Meds ( Levodopa ) and therapies were not doing much, so we thought about trying alternative methods as we heard interesting stories about Ayurvedic herbs with this disease. We explored the path and it changed his life with all symptoms totally reversed – Shakes calmed down, stiffness took a hike. My husband is living proof that natural Ayurvedic herbs can be a game-changer in the face of Parkinson’s as he is totally cured and fine now. The journey wasn’t always smooth, but the results speak for themselves. If anyone out there is facing a similar battle, consider giving Ayurvedic herbs a shot. We got the Ayurvedic herbs which cured him from naturalherbscentre. com I recommend Ayurvedic treatment from Natural Herbs Centre for Parkinson’s disease versus taking the pharmaceutical drugs that only deal with specific symptoms and have damaging side effects to your body.

My husband who had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease for 2 years at the age of 63 had all his symptoms reversed with Ayurveda medicine from naturalherbscentre. com after undergoing their Parkinson’s natural protocol. God Bless all Parkinson’s Caregivers. Stay Strong, take small moments throughout the day to thank yourself, to love your self, and pray to whatever faith, star, spiritual force you believe in and ask for strength. I can personally vouch for these remedy but you would probably need to decide what works best for you.

    • I am very interested in the protocol you used to cure your husband. My son in-law has Parkinson’s disease and he is 73. Please reply.
