Three Crowns wins battle of the pubs!

The Librium Team Challenge players at The Three Crowns

The Three Crowns saw off teams from the Royal Exchange and The Sun in Stafford to lift the trophy in the latest Librium Games Challenge.

In the event at the end of June, Ian Hare and Steve Haimes from The Three Crowns came out on top, securing the Team Challenge Trophy after a nailbiting night of ‘balance and chaos’.

Both the official Three Crowns team and the pairing of Carl Howe and Elliot Plant representing The Royal Exchange ended the normal rounds on 4.5 points, so a deciding match was fought, with Carl dropping the cards after a sterling effort in an attempt to retain the trophy for the Exchange.

The Librium game was invented by Stone man Steve Howe. It involves placing cards on to a pivotable base that is either mounted on a tripod or hung from a ‘hanger wire’. The object of the game is to add the cards to each other in turn without collapsing the structure – Steve calls it “the thinking man’s Buckaroo”!

Teams from local pubs and clubs and individuals are now being invited to register for the Librium Games World Championships to be held on Monday 26th August at The Sun real ale festival in Stafford. Entry is set at £5 per person or £10 for a team of four. Prizes include games, beer (over-18s only) and cash prizes.

Teams can register by clicking HERE. Designated charity for The Librium World Championships is Katharine House Hospice. A percentage of game sales made on the day will be donated to the charity.
