Scouts paid tribute to a stalwart of the Scouting movement in Stone by erecting a special totem pole in his memory at Kibblestone Scout Camp.
Dave “Brasso” Brassington was a major character in the Stone District Scouts until his sudden death last year.
His contribution to Scouting was much admired and as a tribute to his contribution the totem pole was unveiled at a celebration at the camp in Oulton on Saturday 19th November.
The event was attended by Dave’s family, along with many members of Scouting in the area. Dave’s interest in the North American Indians was the inspiration behind the tribute.
Dave Plant, Stone’s District Commissioner, gave a short speech before the team involved in creating and arranging the totem pole unveiled it before the crowd.
This was followed by Mick Adams giving a short speech about his mate “Brasso” and presenting a Scouting award to Dave’s sons that was destined for Dave but who never received it.
A mention has to go to Marj Shermer who designed the totem pole, and the Scouts in the area had the opportunity help carve the images.
