I had the pleasure of seeing the students from Stone’ s Trinity Skills for Life put on their annual show this week at St Dominic’s Priory Hall.
If you don’t know, Trinity Skills for Life is an innovative project for young people with learning disabilities based on the Whitebridge Estate in Stone. You can find out lots more about the brilliant things they do on their website HERE – and I really do urge you to have a look.
The show, on Tuesday 26th July, was a special performance to commemorate the centenary of the Great War, called ‘Day by Day’. There was flag-waving and audience sing-alongs to the songs of the First World War, and so many wonderful moments. A dance hall segment saw students grab audience members for a dance, the Christmas Day football match truce was dramatised and there was a wonderful set-piece set to The Andrew Sisters’ ‘Don’t Sit Under The Apple Tree’.
The show was also incredibly moving, though, most notably when the Last Post was played by Major David Keates MBE as poppy petals were blown around the hall by fans.
Huge thanks to Trinity Skills for Life tutor Chris Burton for inviting A Little Bit of Stone to see the show – we loved it.
A memorial service will be held in Stonefield Park on Sunday 3rd August at 3pm to remember the 148 men from Stone who lost their lives in the Great War. Click HERE for full details
