The new parking system came into force at Morrisons today, with those staying longer than two hours being hit with an £80 penalty charge.
Private parking firm Parking Eye are now in charge of enforcing the new restriction at the store in Mill Street. Currently one parking warden monitors the car park but after Christmas a number-plate recognition system will be in force which snaps vehicles as they enter and leave the car park.
Signs were installed around the car park and at the entrance to the store yesterday but some people did fall foul of the penalty charge today as reports of some angry and confused customers were posted on social networking site Twitter.
Stone general manager Paul Allen said yesterday that the new system – which replaces the barrier – is designed to stamp out abuse of the car park by drivers who are staying all day, leaving genuine shoppers fighting for spaces at peak times.
What do you think? Have you received a penalty charge from Parking Eye?
