Video report: Young Enterprise trade fair

Young entrepreneurs from Stone and across the borough were at Stone farmers’ market on Saturday to sell the products they’ve developed and designed over the last four months.

Each team hired a stall as part of the Young Enterprise Programme and were looking to sell as much as possible in order to help their team go through to the next level. Judges were looking for entrepreneurship from the teams to award a prize for the most innovative or enthusiastic sales person of the day which were Matthew Porter from Team Cygny (from Blythe Bridge High School) and Darcy Evans from Team Revolution (Stafford Grammar).

On the day, their stands were judged on presentation and the best trade stand award was given to Team Write from St Dominic’s High School For Girls and the runners-up were Cygny from Blythe Bridge.

The Business Plan award (for the teams’ business plans which were submitted last November) was also presented on the day. The winners were Cygny from Blythe Bridge and the runners-up were Identity from Stafford Grammar. In third place was Prestige from Alleyne’s Academy.

Sarah White, chair of the Stone and Stafford Young Enterprise Board, said: “This is the seventh year in a row that Young Enterprise has held its Trade Fair in Stone on the same day as the Farmers’ Market. We can see again today the progress our young entrepreneurs have made over the last few months. They have done themselves and all of us involved with YE in the area very proud. Our record for the Board over the last few years has been outstanding. I feel confident from today’s Trade Fair that out teams will triumph yet again at the next stages of the competition.”

Patrick Farrington, the new leader of Stafford Borough Council, presented the prizes. He said: “From yesterday’s Stafford Enterprise AGM at Stafford College to today’s Trade Fair in Stone, we can see that the future for business in Stafford Borough is safe with this generation of Young Entrepreneurs running these fantastic YE teams.”

The winners of the Trade Fair stage will be announced as part of the overall Area finals (along with the company report and presentation stages) in April to be held at Yarnfield Park Conference Centre.

Last year the Stafford & Stone Area Board saw their fourth team in five years make the UK finals as the representative of the YE West Midlands region. Ignite, the Young Enterprise team from Alleynes Academy in Stone, were the third team in four years from the school to make it to the YE UK National Finals and they were named runners-up in last year’s finals in London.
