Views sought on new crime strategy

People in Stone are being urged to give their views on a new strategy to make the town and communities across Staffordshire safer.

The Safer, Fairer, United Communities strategy has been published by Staffordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis for consultation across the county and the city of Stoke-on-Trent.

It focuses on four priorities – intervening early to prevent crime from happening in the first place, supporting victims and witnesses, managing offenders and public confidence.

Mr Ellis has called it the biggest opportunity yet to shape the future of Staffordshire and make sure taxpayers’ money is spent better to protect front-line services and keep police officers on the street.

Mr Ellis said: “It’s not NHS, local authority, CPS or police money… it’s all public money. We have to move away from ‘I’m alright Jack’ organisational silo working which shifts cost from one organisation to another so that the quality of service suffers. Instead, there must be a whole-system approach with public services working collaboratively. This strategy could affect you, your family and your community over the next five years – so you need to have your say to make sure it works.”
