The debate over possible development at Westbridge Park has made the pages of satirical and current affairs magazine Private Eye.
The fortnightly magazine, edited by Ian Hislop of Have I Got News For You? fame, features Westbridge Park in its Playing Fields slot, which casts its eye over the UK for loss of green spaces. The article – titled Supermarket Sweep – focuses on the town’s food and drink festival, stating: “Punters who turn up for the festival in future may find it replaced by a supermarket.”
It goes on: “Food festival chairman Richard Stevens says that if development goes ahead on the park, the event would have no future, which would be ‘a travesty’.”
