What’s that in Westbridge Park? It’s a whale of a show

A giant inflatable whale will be making a splash in Stone this August, as part of a free family event in Westbridge Park.

On Tuesday 12th August 2025, visitors to the park will spot something rather unusual. An 18-metre-long sperm whale beached between the River Trent and the Trent and Mersey Canal. But this is no ordinary whale.

Families are invited to step inside the enormous creature for an interactive performance full of fun, laughter, and surprises.

Free shows inside the whale’s belly

The day-long event, aimed at children aged 3 to 10, features six immersive performances inside the inflatable whale. A lively character known as The Navigator welcomes guests into the belly of the beast and guides them through an engaging, family-friendly adventure. Each performance promises to be “funny, captivating and interactive,” according to organisers.

There’s no need to book in advance, but Stone Town Council expects high interest – so arriving early is advised.

Showtimes are scheduled for:

  • 11:30 am
  • 12:00 noon
  • 1:30 pm
  • 2:00 pm
  • 3:30 pm
  • 4:00 pm

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

A new summer highlight for Stone

The inflatable whale experience has been brought to the town by Stone Town Council, with an eye on helping families make the most of the summer break.

Councillor Jill Hood, Chairman of the Council’s Tourism and Town Promotion Sub-Committee, said:

“The Council is very aware that keeping the kids entertained during the summer holidays can be a challenge and it is often very difficult to find interesting, free activities so I am very pleased that we are able to offer this new event to Stone families.”

She added: “Bring the family down and discover what it is like to be inside a whale’s belly!”

The whale event adds to a growing programme of free and accessible activities hosted in Stone throughout the year, especially during school holidays. This unique spectacle is expected to draw plenty of interest, not just from local residents but also from curious visitors from further afield.
