Woman airlifted to hospital after crash

  A woman was airlifted to hospital with critical injuries following a two-car road traffic collision near Aston Marina this morning.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the A51 Lichfield Road just after 7.30am today. Two ambulances, an incident support officer in a rapid response vehicle and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Tatenhill in Staffordshire attended the scene.

The crash involved a grey Citreon C3, which was travelling towards Stone, and a green Fiat Seicento, which was travelling towards Sandon.

The driver of the Citreon, a 48-year-old woman, was flown by air ambulance to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire where she remains in a critical condition. The driver of the Fiat, an 18-year-old man, was also taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire by ambulance with serious injuries.

The road remained closed until just after 11am while emergency services dealt with the incident and officers completed an examination of the scene.

Witnesses to the collision are asked to contact the officer in the case, Sgt Jez Heath, on 101 quoting incident number 90 of 24 November.
