World Sight Day walk raises awareness of blindness

Town mayor Rob Kenney at the start of Stone Lions' World Sight Day walk

Children from Christ Church Middle School joined Guide Dogs for the Blind, town mayor Rob Kenney and Stone Lions for a special walk in the town centre on Thursday 14th October for World Sight Day.

The walk, which saw all sighted people taking part being blindfolded, aimed to recreate the difficulties that visually-impaired people face in their day-to-day lives. Many of the pupils brought along old, unused spectacles for delivery around the world, while Guide Dogs for the Blind raised over £70. People can still donate their old glasses by taking them into Peter Bowers on the High Street or Nusyte in Adie’s Alley.
