A recording of local theatre group Stone Revellers’ magical Midsummer Night’s Dream will be streamed to raise money for the Crown Wharf Theatre Charity
The performance from 2015 will be premiered on YouTube on Friday 12 March at 7.30pm, and viewers will be able to enjoy the performance while chatting online in real time at www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsGn2ZB7JvA.
A a donation of £5 is suggested, but people can give whatever they can afford at the Crown Wharf Theatre Just Giving page. All money raised from the virtual event will help turn the charity’s dream of a brand-new theatre in Stone into a reality.
The Crown Wharf Theatre is the first new theatre build in Staffordshire for a quarter of a century, and the outer shell has been completed by Joule’s Brewery as a gift to the community as part of their Crown Wharf development in the town.
The building will be handed over to the Crown Wharf Theatre charity in April – and it will then be down to the charity to take the project the rest of the way, with an internal fit-out of the auditorium, back of house and workshop areas estimated to cost around £750,000.
As soon as the charity takes on the building, work will start on the backstage area, and the charity is seeking to raise money through major grants, corporate sponsors, private donations and general fundraising.
Crown Wharf Theatre trustee Harri Capernaros said: “Shakespeare himself lived during a time of plague when theatres were subject to long periods of closure due to lockdowns. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
“The last 12 month have been so hard for everyone, for people’s jobs and businesses, and for charities like Crown Wharf Theatre. But thanks to amazing support from our local community, we’ve been able to move the project along and we can’t wait to take the building on and get started with the backstage area.
“Our shared virtual experience of A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a reminder of the beauty and power of live performance, and the magic of people coming together to experience it, something we’re working hard to deliver at Crown Wharf Theatre.”
