Friends and family of Phil ‘Skinny’ James raised over £3,000 at memorial cricket matches for a charity that works to prevent young people taking their own lives.
The charity day took place at Oulton Cricket Club, the last club that Phil – who was just 19 when he died – played for. Phil died in hospital two days after being hit by a train in Stone in September 2014.
Four teams took part in four matches on the day, led by team captains Lee James (Phil’s brother), Nic Bigham, Rory Jones and Danny Cutler.
A huge £3,200 was raised for the Papyrus charity, which provides confidential help and advice to young people and anyone worried about a young person. It helps others to prevent young suicide by working with and training professionals and much more. Visit www.papyrus-uk.org to find out more about their work.
Phil’s brother Lee, one of the team captains on the day, said: “We were so pleased to raise a massive £3200 for Papyrus. I’d like to thank everyone who attended and all the local business who donated prizes for the day.”
