Two excellent second-half goals gave Stone Old Alleynians a comfortable win against lowly Blackheath Town in the West Midlands League Division 1 on Saturday 20th April.
The first half was rather scrappy, with flashes of good football and the Old Boys getting the bulk of the chances. They should have opened the scoring in the 5th min, when Nick Buckley’s cross found Danny Heard, unmarked, but he headed the chance over the bar. Adam Tomkinson then spectacularly volleyed Danny Kocyigit’s cross over the top.
Stone nearly took the lead from a well worked corner, Tomkinson’s pulled the ball back to Carl Dibden, 20 yards out, but his low shot was deflected just wide for another corner. Sam Wilson volleyed over before Alleynian’s keeper, Adam Heath, produced his first save, blocking a hard low drive from the left.

The Alleynians upped their game in the second half but continued to miss gilt-edged chances as they put the home side under pressure. They also found Town keeper, Brad Rogers, in inspired form as he pulled off numerous fine saves. First Tomkinson’s long-range drive was tipped around the post and the speedy Kocyigit’s cross was flicked by Heard towards the bottom corner only to see the keeper do the same again. Tomkinson and Dibden then tried their corner routine, but again Rogers’s outstretched hand put the ball round the upright. He then pulled off two good saves from Heard before Luke Matthews was put clear by Heard but he elected to pass, instead of shooting and the chance was lost.
The deadlock was finally broken mid-way through the second half, this time the Tomkinson – Dibden routine worked from a free-kick and the latter’s tremendous drive gave the keeper no chance. Ten mins later the Old Alleynians got their second, Danny Heard beat his man on the left-hand corner of the area and flighted the ball into the top right-right hand corner of the net. Blackheath shot just wide with one of their rare attacks before the Old Boys nearly got their third but Tomkinson’s volley from Wilson’s pass was tipped onto the post just before the final whistle.
