Staffordshire Police has urged people in Stone to follow simple crime prevention measures after two pick-pocket thefts on Stone High Street.
In one theft in April, a large amount of money in a sealed envelope was stolen from a woman’s handbag.
Following a more recent theft, police say they have increased high-visibility patrols around the town centre and examined CCTV. Officers are also raising awareness in the town centre with crime prevention advice.
A police spokeswoman said: “We urge members of the public to take simple crime prevention measures to keep handbags, purses, money and bank cards safe.”
Please remember to:
- Always keep your purse or wallet out of sight
- Avoid carrying large amounts of cash and be careful not to let anyone see what’s in your purse or wallet as you pay for goods
- Be vigilant and aware of who is around – particularly when withdrawing money from a cash manchine
- Never leave your purse or bag unattended on a trolley, pushchair or wheelchair
