Warning after High Street pick-pocket thefts

Staffordshire Police has urged people in Stone to follow simple crime prevention measures after two pick-pocket thefts on Stone High Street.

In one theft in April, a large amount of money in a sealed envelope was stolen from a woman’s handbag.

Following a more recent theft, police say they have increased high-visibility patrols around the town centre and examined CCTV. Officers are also raising awareness in the town centre with crime prevention advice.

Please remember to:

  • Always keep your purse or wallet out of sight
  • Avoid carrying large amounts of cash and be careful not to let anyone see what’s in your purse or wallet as you pay for goods
  • Be vigilant and aware of who is around – particularly when withdrawing money from a cash manchine
  • Never leave your purse or bag unattended on a trolley, pushchair or wheelchair
