Police have crushed 350 vehicles across Staffordshire in the last few months because drivers had no insurance or licence.
New figures from Staffordshire Police show that between 1st April and 30th September this year 948 vehicles were seized for having no insurance or licence and 350 of them were crushed.
Chief Inspector Vera Bloor said: “Some vehicles with no tax or insurance also have major problems like tyre or brake defects that can be really dangerous. Another worrying implication is that drivers with no licence are potentially more dangerous as they haven’t proved they have the basic driving skills to drive a vehicle safely.”
Staffordshire Police uses the Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system, which tells them if a vehicle is insured, has current tax and gives information which may show whether the driver is licensed.
