As the Stone Food & Drink Festival looks set to continue its meteoric growth into a real ‘red letter day’ of the foodie calendar, the volunteer board of directors is now seeking the event’s first direct employee in the form of a part-time administration assistant.
The event, which is run entirely by volunteers, now attracts some 20,000 people into Stone during festival week and with its reputation on the rise the team has once again been inundated with requests for stands from new exhibitors. With hopes to expand the Festival site and continue the event’s organic growth in coming years, support is now needed year-round in the festival office.
Chairman Richard Stevens said: “We are getting busier year on year, and planning each Festival starts as soon as the last one has finished on a Sunday evening. We’ve once again been inundated with enquiries from new and existing exhibitors and processing them and responding accordingly is pretty much swamping my workload when I really need to be concentrating on the logistical and planning side of the event. We discussed the matter as a board and have come to the decision that the time is right to employ someone to take some of the strain on the admin side of things.
“While we are hugely thankful to our team of volunteers, this new role demands regular weekly commitment and feel that it’s only fair to offer it as a paid job. We estimate that it will take between four and 10 hours per week depending on the time of year, as this will impact workload, and would suit someone who’s a self-starter and can work from home. Whether that’s someone who is retired and seeking part-time work or someone looking to juggle work around children, we’re open to a flexible approach, so long as they have the necessary skills and can work off their own initiative.”
The successful candidate will be expected to support Richard in the day-to-day management of the festival office. Working predominantly from home, tasks will include:
- monitoring and responding to emails to the Festival inbox and messages on the festival mobile phone
- escalating calls and passing on to relevant members of the board
- assisting with the production and distribution of exhibitor packs
- providing support in the processing of completed exhibitor applications
- the monitoring and processing ticket sales via website and festival office, occasionally manning the Festival Office during open times from Sept – early Oct and attendance of Directors’ meetings to take minutes.
