Take a walk on the wild side at Trust festival

Staffordshire Wildlife Trust are inviting people to meet celebrity wildlife experts, take part in nature trails, and enjoy nature themed activities at their Wildlife Festival.

The festival, sponsored by Crayfish Design, has been organised by the Trust and takes place on Sunday 22nd May, between 10.30am and 4pm.  It will also include the Trust’s AGM, which starts at 10am.

The location for the festival will be the Trust’s Wolseley Centre headquarters, near Rugeley.  A major highlight is a guest appearance from naturalist Mike Dilger, already familiar to regular viewers of BBC1’s The One Show.  Mike will be signing copies of his new book ‘Nightingales in November’, as well as hosting a special talk about the book and his work.

Wildlife campaigner and journalist Mary Colwell will also be in attendance, highlighting the plight of the endangered curlew.

Other expert speakers will be on hand to discuss subjects such as grasslands, the impact of HS2 on wildlife and wetlands.

Mike said: “As a Staffordian born and bred, I’m really looking forward to returning to my original home patch, particularly on the day of such an auspicious occasion.

“The Staffordshire Wildlife Festival promises to be a terrific day, dedicated to this wonderful and highly underrated county, and I look forward to spending the day at the event, and seeing both a few familiar faces and lots of new ones as we all come together to celebrate wildlife on our own doorstep.”

Alison Holmes, Commercial Manager for the Trust, said: “The festival will be a great occasion, and a real showcase for what our charity is about, and the work we carry out across the county.  We are very excited to welcome Mike Dilger to the event, and a number of  other expert speakers too.

“We hope there will be something for everyone on the day, and look forward to seeing people there.  Activities include guided walks, pond dipping, mini beast hunting, and there will also be a range of nature themed stalls.”

The event will also act as the Trust’s 30 Days Wild launch.  The 30 Days Wild challenge encourages people to do something wild every day during the month of June, from reading a nature book, exploring a local reserve or even a spot of bird-watching.  People can sign up for the event here

The festival is free to attend, there will be a £3 entry fee to attend Mike Dilger’s talk, and a charge for some of the activities.  For more details, visit the Trust’s website

Refreshments will be provided courtesy of a bar, cafe, and wood-fired pizzas throughout the event.
