The new Prior Physio & Pilates Studio is all ready to open its doors on Stone’s Radford Street, so we caught up with the studio owner, Anne-Marie Nash, to find out more about the new venture.
Anne-Marie explained a bit of her background and how she ended up deciding to open a studio in Stone:
“Although I now live in Fulford with my family I’m Danish and grew up in Denmark before moving to London in 1993, to train as a dancer at the Laban Centre (now called Trinity Laban).
Pilates was part of my dance training, and after graduating I went to train in the complete Pilates system with Alan Herdman (who opened the first Pilates studio in the UK in 1970), and I qualified as a Pilates teacher in 1997.
After having my own studio, first in Cheltenham then Warwickshire, we moved to Staffordshire for my husband’s job, and I decided to go back to university to study physiotherapy.
I have worked as a physio both privately and in the NHS since 2010, while also teaching Pilates mat classes. However, my love has always been the full Pilates studio work, and it has been a dream for a long time, to open a fully equipped Pilates studio.”
On the subject of the Stone location Anne-Marie added:
“When I saw the property on Radford Street was up for lease I just knew it was the perfect place. It is situated on the ground floor, so easily accessible and is in a great visible location with parking across the road. The space is ideal, being neither too big or too small.”
We asked Anne-Marie to explain what the studio would be offering:
“There are many mat classes around, but not many people realise that the mat-work is only a small part of what Pilates is, and I am really keen to introduce people to the wonderful benefits of the full Pilates system.
The studio is equipped with state-of-the-art large Pilates equipment (called Cadillac and Reformer) as well as lots of small equipment, and I have made every effort to create an elegant, comfortable space with little extra touches to make clients feel welcome and looked after.
I would describe the studio as a fully equipped, boutique studio offering a high quality of Physiotherapist-led Pilates. I will be offering one-to-one sessions, Trio’s (3 clients in the studio, but each doing their own individual work-out, a bit like a small Pilates gym) as well as small mat groups.
The beauty of what I can offer is not only a fully equipped Pilates studio but 25 years experience of dance, Pilates and Physiotherapy. I can therefore offer sessions to any level of client, whether they are looking for general exercise, sports specific exercise or have just had surgery and need me to liaise with their consultant to continue rehabilitation.”
Anne-Marie is initially going to be juggling the new venture with her current part-time NHS physiotherapy job.
The studio opens on Monday 25th February, and will initially be open on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays
All details can be found at the studio’s website, keep an eye out for updates – https://www.priorpilates.com
There will be an open studio for people to come in and have a look and a chat on Thursday evening (21st Feb) 5-8pm and on Saturday morning (23rd Feb) 9-12.
