Match Report – Stone Old Alleynians V Oswestry Town

Hallmark Security League Div 1 (South)

Saturday 2nd March 2019

Stone Old Alleynians entertained form team FC Oswestry Town, who were on a four-game winning run, at Yarnfield.

It was a match with few chances either end between two evenly matched sides. Oswestry had a freekick just beyond the right-hand corner of the penalty area, which was whipped in dangerously and turned behind at the far post by the Stone defence for a corner.

Some good football by the Old Boys, down the right, ended with a dangerous cross whipped in by Michael Williams that evaded everyone. It was the dangerous Williams again beating his man, but again his cross went begging. Danny Heard was harshly penalized, when he appeared to play the ball, for another free kick in a dangerous position which was hit high and wide.

The second half saw the Alleynians dictating the game, with Oswestry always dangerous on the break, but like the first half chances were few and far between. The introduction of livewire Sam Wilson, back from injury, livened up the Old Boys attack and they looked most likely to score, but the Town defence stood firm. In one of their breaks, Adam Alcock had to make a smart save and only a great tackle near the end prevented Oswestry getting the winner.
